Is Time Created? Or is it from the Names of God (Allah)?
Answer by Al-Imām ʿAbdul-ʿAzeez Ibn Bāz (Allah’s mercy be upon him):
No. Rather, He is the creator of time (ad-dahr). Ad-dahr is time itself, and Allah is its Creator. That is why He, the Mighty and Majestic, said: “I turn its night and its day.”
Question: But Allah says, “I am ad-dahr”? (i.e. in a hadeeth).
Answer: Meaning, I am the Creator of time — just as occurs in the [same] hadeeth: “I turn its night and its day.” This is the wording of the hadith: “I turn its night and its day.”
Question: Then, is time one of the Attributes of Allah?
Answer: No. Ad-dahr is the created thing — it is time.
