Aqeeqah:\u2002Shaving the Hair & its Virtues and Rulings \u2013 A Sunnah of Gratitude and Purity<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Islam teaches us to thank Allah for the child by doing other acts like shaving the baby\u2019s\u2002hair and the Aqeeqah. This concept\u2002is further corroborated by the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (\ufdfa).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Prophet (\ufdfa) said:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u0648\u0645\u0639 \u0627\u0644\u063a\u0644\u0627\u0645\u2002\u0639\u0642\u064a\u0642\u0629 \u0641\u0623\u0647\u0631\u0642\u0648\u0627 \u0639\u0646\u0647 \u062f\u0645\u0627 \u0648\u0627\u0645\u064a\u0637\u0648\u0627 \u0639\u0646\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0630\u0649<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0(\u0635\u062d\u064a\u062d \u0627\u0644\u0628\u062e\u0627\u0631\u064a)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo with the child is the Aqeeqah \u2013 slaughter an animal and ward off\u2002harm (shave the head).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Timing:<\/b><\/h3>\n

\u00a0Islam recommends the Aqeeqah and shaving the baby\u2019s hair seventh day This issue is clearly indicated by the case of Aisha RA who said :<\/span><\/p>\n

Rawahu Al-Bazzaar, Ibn Hibban, wakalahu Al-Hakim Similar saying is attributed to Ibn Umar RA:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201c\u0642\u0627\u0644 \u0631\u0633\u0648\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0635\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647 \u0648\u0633\u0644\u0645: \u0625\u0630\u0627 \u0643\u0627\u0646 \u064a\u0648\u0645 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0627\u0628\u0639 \u0644\u0644\u0645\u0648\u0644\u0648\u062f \u0641\u0627\u0647\u0631\u0642\u0648\u0627 \u0639\u0646\u0647 \u062f\u0645\u0627 \u0648\u0623\u0645\u064a\u0637\u0648\u0627 \u0639\u0646\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0630\u0649 \u0648\u0633\u0645\u0648\u0647\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

(The Messenger of Allah \ufdfa said: On the 7th day after a baby\u2019s birth sacrifice an animal, remove the harm (shave the head) and name the baby.Reported by Al-Tabarani.<\/span><\/p>\n

if performance of Aqeeqah on the seventh day is not feasible , it may also be done on the fourteenth or twenty first day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aqeeqah for All Children.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Aqeeqah is for all children, not just the first born. It is a practice which applies to male and female. The Prophet (\ufdfa) said:.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u0625\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u064a\u0647\u0648\u062f \u062a\u0639\u0642 \u0639\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u063a\u0644\u0627\u0645 \u0643\u0628\u0634\u0627 \u0648\u0644\u0627 \u062a\u0639\u0642 \u0639\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u062c\u0627\u0631\u064a\u0629\u060c \u0641\u0639\u0642\u0648\u0627 \u0639\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u063a\u0644\u0627\u0645 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u062c\u0627\u0631\u064a\u0629\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In fact the Jews do for their male children the Aqeeqah ritual with one sheep and do not do it for girls. Do Aqeeqah for boys and girls. (Reported by Al-Bazzaar).<\/span><\/p>\n

Number of Animals<\/span><\/h3>\n

The famous scholar Imam Malik states that for Aqiqah the number of sacrificial\u00a0 animals should be the same for boys and girls. But the majority of Muslim scholars are of the view that it is not wrong to sacrifice more for boys. That we find a contradiction in the Hadiths regarding this issue is what makes us recommend equality. It is also put forward that which animal is slaughtered is of little import, what is preferred is the sacrifice of a sheep although it is accepted to sacrifice camels or large cattle also. What is primary in the sacrifice in Islam is to put food on the tables of the poor which is what Imam Shafi\u2019i (R) and others have said is achieved best by animals which give more meat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Selection of Animal\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

As per a hadith cited from Anas ibn Malik (RA):\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u064a\u0639\u0642 \u0639\u0646\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0625\u0628\u0644 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0628\u0642\u0631 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u063a\u0646\u0645\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

(At least camels, cows, or sheep may be sacrificed.) (Reported by Al Tabarani).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Abu Dawood reported also:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u0623\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0628\u064a \ufdfa \u0639\u0642 \u0639\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u062d\u0633\u0646 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u062d\u0633\u064a\u0646 \u0643\u0628\u0634\u0627 \u0643\u0628\u0634\u0627\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

(The Prophet \ufdfa did Aqeeqah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, each time sacrificing one sheep.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Aqeeqah for Deceased Infants<\/span><\/h3>\n

If a birth results in death before the seventh day, performance of Aqeeqah is still a recommended act. Also reported by Imam An-Nawawi that.<\/span><\/p>\n

(Sharh Al-Muhadhdhab 8:448).<\/span><\/p>\n

In the hereafter the practice of Aqeeqah is of benefit. The Prophet\u00a0 \ufdfa\u00a0 also taught\u00a0 that\u00a0 even in such cases\u00a0 the Aqeeqah is a help to the parents and the child in their way towards Allah. Aqeeqah is a beautiful element of our Islam which expresses our thankfulness to Allah and at the same time we as a community come together in feeding the poor and in that we promote equality.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
