only the Quran; Rejecting the Sunnah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Explanation of the Chapter Heading: \u2018Respecting and Honouring the Hadeeth of the Prophet (\ufdfa) and being stern with those who go against it.\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Ibn M\u0101jah entitled this chapter, <strong>\u2018Respecting and Honouring the Hadeeth of the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and being stern with those who go against it.\u2019 <\/strong>Here, the meaning of \u2018respecting and honouring\u2019 is to give the Ah\u0101deeth the importance and concern they deserve and to cling to them, and not to be lenient or lax regarding taking from the Hadeeth.<\/p>\n<p>Being <strong>\u2018stern with those who go against the Hadeeth,\u2019<\/strong> means those who speak against the Hadeeths and do not act in accordance with them once they have been conveyed to them.<\/p>\n<p>Ibn M\u0101jah reports a collection of Hadeeth under this chapter heading, within which there is a stern warning against falling short concerning the Hadeeth of the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and not clinging to that which has been established from the Messenger of Allah (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam).<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hadeeth Number 1<\/strong>2<\/h2>\n<p>The author, Ibn M\u0101jah (rahimahullah) said:<\/p>\n<p \u200f\u201d\u200f \u200f.\u200f<\/p>\n<p>Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying that Zaid ibn ul-Hub\u0101b narrated to us, from Mu\u2019\u0101wiyyah bin S\u0101lih, who said that al-Hassan bin J\u0101bir narrated to me from al-Miqd\u0101m bin Ma\u2019dee-Karib al-Kindi that Allah\u2019s Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThere will soon come a time when a man will be reclining on his couch, and when a Hadeeth of mine is narrated to him he will say: \u2018Between us and you is only the Book of Allah, and whatever we find within it that is hal\u0101l, then we will take it as being hal\u0101l, and whatever we find within it which is har\u0101m, we will take it to be har\u0101m.\u2019 Verily! Whatever the Messenger of Allah (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) has forbidden is like what Allah has forbidden.\u201d<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>(Reported by ibn M\u0101jah, Abu D\u0101wud, at-Tirmidhi and Im\u0101m Ahmad. Sheikh al-Alb\u0101ni declared it to be Saheeh in Saheeh al-J\u0101mi\u2019, 2657)<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Explanation<\/h2>\n<p>This is the first Hadeeth narrated by the companion al-Miqd\u0101m bin Ma\u2019di Karib al-Kindi (radiAllahu \u2018anhu) that Allah\u2019s Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said: \u201c\u064a\u0648\u0634\u0643 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u062c\u0644\u201d- meaning that <strong>there will soon come a time where there will be man<\/strong> who will be: \u201c\u0645\u062a\u0643\u0626\u0627 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0623\u0631\u064a\u0643\u062a\u0647\u201d- i.e. <strong>reclining on his couch<\/strong>, meaning that he will be in a state of luxury and affluence, remaining in his house and not leaving his home in search of knowledge; he will not concern himself with studying knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>His (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) statement, <strong>\u2018When a Hadeeth of mine is narrated to him,\u2019<\/strong> meaning when a Hadeeth is read to him from the ah\u0101deeth of Allah\u2019s Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) he will not take from it, rather he will say, <strong>\u2018Between us and you is the Book of Allah and whatever we find in that that is hal\u0101l, we will consider that to be hal\u0101l, and whatever we find in it of har\u0101m, we will consider that to be har\u0101m,\u2019<\/strong> \u2013 meaning that they will cling to that which is in the Book of Allah, and they will leave other than that and not pay attention to it. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed into a plain error.\u201d<\/strong> (Surah al-Ahz\u0101b 33:36).<\/p>\n<p>He, the Most High also says:<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-noto-naskh-arabic-font-family has-medium-font-size\">\u0642\u064f\u0644\u0652 \u0625\u0650\u0646 \u0643\u064f\u0646\u062a\u064f\u0645\u0652 \u062a\u064f\u062d\u0650\u0628\u0651\u064f\u0648\u0646\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u064e \u0641\u064e\u0627\u062a\u0651\u064e\u0628\u0650\u0639\u064f\u0648\u0646\u0650<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cSay, \u2018If you truly love Allah, then follow me.\u201d<\/strong> (Surah Aal- \u2018Imr\u0101n 3:31). <\/p>\n<p>Meaning follow the Messenger salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam),<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-noto-naskh-arabic-font-family has-medium-font-size\"> \u064a\u064f\u062d\u0652\u0628\u0650\u0628\u0652\u0643\u064f\u0645\u064f \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u064f \u0648\u064e\u064a\u064e\u063a\u0652\u0641\u0650\u0631\u0652 \u0644\u064e\u0643\u064f\u0645\u0652 \u0630\u064f\u0646\u064f\u0648\u0628\u064e\u0643\u064f\u0645\u0652 \u06d7 \u0648\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u064f \u063a\u064e\u0641\u064f\u0648\u0631\u064c \u0631\u0651\u064e\u062d\u0650\u064a\u0645\u064c <\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAllah will love you and forgive you your sins, and Allah is oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.\u201d<\/strong> (Surah Aal-\u2019Imr\u0101n 3:31). <\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the denier of the Sunnah is also a denier of the Qur\u2019\u0101n, because the Qur\u2019\u0101n orders us to take the Sunnah: what the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) came with.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Meaning of the Hadeeth<\/h2>\n<p>The Hadeeth means that there will soon come a time when there will be found a person who speaks with this speech. He will be one of the affluent people who will be living in the lap of luxury. These people will not go out and search for the Truth or seek guidance, nor will they seek knowledge from its people, and they will deviate from the straight path, and they will be carried by their desires and will traverse upon their own incorrect and misguided understandings. So, a Hadeeth from the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) will be narrated to one of them, but he will not accept it; rather, he will say, \u2018Between us and you is only the Book of Allah, whatever we find in it of hal\u0101l, we will consider it to be hal\u0101l, and whatever we find in it to be har\u0101m, then we will consider it to be har\u0101m.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Then, at the end of the Hadeeth, the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said,<strong> \u2018Indeed, whatever the Messenger of Allah (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) has made har\u0101m, is like what Allah has made har\u0101m.\u2019<\/strong> This means that whatever has come in the Sunnah is the same as what has come in the Qur\u2019\u0101n, because that which has come in the Sunnah is from Allah, and it is not from the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam), rather the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is the one who conveyed from Allah, the Most High. The Shari\u2019ah did not come from the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) himself; rather, it came from Allah.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Khatt\u0101bi (d.388H, rahimahullah) said in Ma\u2019\u0101lim as-Sunan, volume 4, page 299: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this Hadeeth is a proof that there is no need to refer the Hadeeth of the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) to the Qur\u2019\u0101n [for confirmation], and whatever is established as being from the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is a proof in itself.<\/p>\n<p>As for what some narrate that the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) supposedly said, <strong>\u2018If there comes to you a Hadeeth then refer it to the Book of Allah, and if it agrees with it, take it, and if it opposes it, then leave it,\u2019<\/strong> then <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">this narration is false, having no basis to it<\/span>. Zakariyyah bin Yahya as-S\u0101ji narrates from Yahya bin Ma\u2019een (rahimahullah) regarding this narration that he said, <strong>\u2018This Hadeeth was fabricated by the heretics.\u2019<\/strong>\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the Shari\u2019ah that was revealed to the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is of two categories:<\/p>\n<p>1. That which is recited as an act of worship, and it is acted upon, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and that is the Qur\u2019\u0101n<\/span>.<br \/>2. That with which a person worships Allah by acting upon it, just as one acts upon the Qur\u2019\u0101n, however, it is not recited as an act of worship as the Qur\u2019\u0101n is, and this is the Sunnah.<\/p>\n<p>So, the Sunnah agrees and is in harmony with the Qur\u2019\u0101n in that both of them are to be acted upon.<\/p>\n<p>Ibn Abil \u2018Izz al-Hanafi (d.792H, rahimahullah) said in his explanation of the \u2018Aqeedah of Im\u0101m at-Tah\u0101wi (pages 166-167):<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is obligatory to submit completely to the Messenger of Allah (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and to yield to his commands and to accept his narrations and to truly affirm them in the hearts, without referring them to false notions and ideas that are referred to as logic or \u2018reason\u2019. We should not be in any doubt concerning his narrations and we are not to put the opinions of men before him nor the refuse of their thoughts, rather the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is singled out with judgement and with submitting and yielding to him, just as the One who sent him is singled out with all worship, humility to him, turning to him in repentance, and trusting and relying on him. Both of these are considered to be oneness.<\/p>\n<p>There is no salvation for a person from the punishment of Allah except by clinging to both (i.e., singling out Allah with all worship and singling out the Messenger to be followed). One does not judge by anyone other than Allah and the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam), and one is not pleased by anyone else\u2019s judgement. <\/p>\n<p>We do not refrain from acting upon his commands nor from believing in what he reported, or to refer it to a sheikh or an Im\u0101m or a madhab-, thus accepting or rejecting the hadeeth based on this. That a person is cast into every sin (other than shirk) by his Lord is better than being cast into this trial. Rather, if a Saheeh Hadeeth reaches him, he should consider it as if he heard it himself from Allah\u2019s Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam). Would he then be allowed to delay accepting it and acting upon it until he obtained the opinion of so and so?<\/p>\n<p>Rather, it is obligatory to hasten to act upon the Hadeeth without referring it to others. One should not find it difficult to act upon the words of the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) just because it opposes the opinion of so and so. Rather, it is this opposing opinion that should cause one difficulty. <\/p>\n<p>The Hadeeth are not to be contradicted with analogy, for this is a waste of analogy, and his (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) speech is not to be distorted through the use of what they term as intellect, rationale, and logic. One who does this is far away from that which is correct. So, one is not to wait before accepting the words of the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) until it agrees with the saying of so and so or so and so, whoever they may be.\u201d [End of the saying of ibn Abil \u2018Izz].<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, no one is given precedence over the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam), in speech and action, and one does not refrain from acting on the Sunnah because of his \u2018sheikh\u2019 or because of his madhab. This is why the saved sect is called \u2018Ahlul Hadeeth\u2019 because they follow the Hadeeth of the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam), and they do not give anyone\u2019s opinions precedence over the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) because everything he came with is from revelation.<\/p>\n<p>We have already mentioned the Hadeeth of the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam), <strong>\u2018Whoever obeys me has obeyed Allah and whoever disobeys me has disobeyed Allah.\u2019 <\/strong>This is because obedience to the Messenger of Allah (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is obedience to Allah because the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) did not bring anything from himself; rather, whatever he brought was from Allah the Most High, just as He said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-noto-naskh-arabic-font-family has-medium-font-size\">\u0648\u064e\u0645\u064e\u0627 \u064a\u064e\u0646\u0637\u0650\u0642\u064f \u0639\u064e\u0646\u0650 \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0647\u064e\u0648\u064e\u0649\u0670 \u0625\u0650\u0646\u0652 \u0647\u064f\u0648\u064e \u0625\u0650\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0627 \u0648\u064e\u062d\u0652\u064a\u064c \u064a\u064f\u0648\u062d\u064e\u0649\u0670<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHe does not speak from his desires. It is only a revelation revealed.\u201d<\/strong> (Surah an-Najm 53:3-4).<\/p>\n<p>Allah has informed us that He is the One who sent down the Book and He sent the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) to explain that Book to the people, such that He, the Most High, said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-noto-naskh-arabic-font-family has-medium-font-size\">\u0648\u064e\u0623\u064e\u0646\u0632\u064e\u0644\u0652\u0646\u064e\u0627 \u0625\u0650\u0644\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0643\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0630\u0651\u0650\u0643\u0652\u0631\u064e \u0644\u0650\u062a\u064f\u0628\u064e\u064a\u0651\u0650\u0646\u064e \u0644\u0650\u0644\u0646\u0651\u064e\u0627\u0633\u0650 \u0645\u064e\u0627 \u0646\u064f\u0632\u0651\u0650\u0644\u064e \u0625\u0650\u0644\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0647\u0650\u0645\u0652\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAnd We have sent down to you, the reminder, that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them\u2026\u201d <\/strong>(Surah an-Nahl 16:44).<\/p>\n<p>Here, Allah, the Most High, explains that He sent the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) so that he may explain the revelation to the people. So, the explanation and clarification of all the acts of worship and the dealings between the people have come in the Sunnah of Allah\u2019s Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam). <\/p>\n<p>The Qur\u2019\u0101n has come with many different affairs in a generalised manner, and their explanation is found in the Sunnah. Allah, the Most High, has commanded the establishment of the prayer; however, how the prayer is to be performed is reported in the Sunnah: the number of rak\u2019\u0101t, what is to be recited in each rukoo\u2019, sajdah, the sitting, etc., all of this is reported in the Sunnah, and is not mentioned in the Qur\u2019\u0101n. Furthermore, he (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said: <strong>\u201cPray as you have seen me praying.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The one who says that he does not believe in the Sunnah, then how does he pray? How does he fulfil this great pillar of Isl\u0101m?<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, with respect to the Zak\u0101h, the Qur\u2019\u0101n mentions the command of paying the zak\u0101h, but how much is to be paid? What is the minimum amount that a person must possess before zak\u0101h becomes obligatory upon him? All of this is found in the Sunnah, such as the Hadeeth of Anas bin M\u0101lik regarding the book of Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (radiyallahu \u2018anhu) about the obligations of the Zak\u0101h. <\/p>\n<p>Im\u0101m Bukh\u0101ri (rahimahullah) and others have reported that Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq (radiyallahu \u2018anhu) wrote the obligations of the zak\u0101h that Allah and His Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) have commanded with. This writing included the amount of zak\u0101h that is to be paid on camels, cows, sheep, etc, and the minimum number of these animals that should be reached (the nis\u0101b) before the zak\u0101h is to be paid. None of this can be ascertained except by way of the Sunnah; it is not mentioned in the Qur\u2019\u0101n.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, regarding Hajj, the command is found in the Qur\u2019\u0101n:<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-noto-naskh-arabic-font-family has-medium-font-size\">\u0648\u064e\u0644\u0650\u0644\u0651\u064e\u0647\u0650 \u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0651\u064e\u0627\u0633\u0650 \u062d\u0650\u062c\u0651\u064f \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0628\u064e\u064a\u0652\u062a\u0650 \u0645\u064e\u0646\u0650 \u0627\u0633\u0652\u062a\u064e\u0637\u064e\u0627\u0639\u064e \u0625\u0650\u0644\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0647\u0650 \u0633\u064e\u0628\u0650\u064a\u0644\u064b\u0627 \u06da<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAnd Hajj to the House is a duty that mankind owes to Allah.\u201d<\/strong> (Surah Aal-\u2019Imr\u0101n 3:97).<\/p>\n<p>However, the actual details of exactly how to perform Hajj, with all the details, are only found in the Sunnah. The Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, \u2018<strong>Take from me your rites of Hajj,\u2019 <\/strong>(Reported by Im\u0101m Muslim from J\u0101bir radiyallahu \u2018anhu). Thus, clearly showing that the details of Hajj are to be found in the actions and statements of the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam).<\/p>\n<p>A man came to the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) and asked, <strong>\u2018What is for me if I were to be killed in the cause of Allah?\u2019 <\/strong>So, Allah\u2019s Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) said, <strong>\u2018For you is Jannah.\u2019<\/strong> When the man turned away, the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) added, <strong>\u2018Except for a debt, for indeed Jibreel has just confided this to me (now).\u2019 <\/strong>This is because the debt is a right of the people, so this was made as an exception to the general statement of \u2018Jannah.\u2019 Therefore, this extra information regarding the debt was revealed to the Prophet (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) through Jibreel (\u2018alaihis-sal\u0101m).<\/p>\n<p>Im\u0101m az-Zuhri (rahimahullah) said, <strong>\u2018From Allah is the message, and upon the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) is to convey, and upon us is to submit.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So, the Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) conveyed the message to us as he was commanded to do, and he did so in a complete and perfect manner. He (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) did not leave an affair that would bring a person closer to Allah except that he guided his ummah to it, and he did not leave an affair that would take a person away from Allah, except that he warned his ummah from it.<\/p>\n<p>The Messenger (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) left the people upon a clear and white plain; its night is as clear as its day; he (salall\u0101hu \u2018alaihi wasallam) left us upon the utmost clarity and illumination.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Men in the Chain of Narration<\/h2>\n<p>Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah: he is thiqah (trustworthy and reliable), and all of the 6 books narrate from him except for at-Tirmidhi.<\/p>\n<p>Zaid bin al-Hub\u0101b: he is suduq (truthful), Im\u0101m al-Bukh\u0101ri narrates from him in \u2018Juz ul-Qir\u0101\u2019ah\u2019, as does Im\u0101m Muslim and the Companions of the Sunan.<\/p>\n<p>Mu\u0101wiyyah bin S\u0101lih: he is suduq (truthful), but he has some mistakes, Bukh\u0101ri narrates from him in \u2018Juz ul-Qir\u0101\u2019ah\u2019 as does Muslim and the Companions of the Sunan.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Hassan bin J\u0101bir: he is maqbool (accepted), and Tirmidhi and Ibn M\u0101jah narrate from him. However, he is not alone in narrating this Hadeeth.
