\u201cDo not pray Witr in three rak\u02bfahs resembling the Maghrib prayer.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n (Al-H\u0101kim (1\/304), al-Bayhaq\u012b (3\/31), and al-D\u0101raqutn\u012b (172). A person can make Witr with just one rak\u2019ah due to the saying of the Prophet (\ufdfa):\u00a0\u201cWhoever loves to make Witr<\/strong>\u00a0with one rak\u2019ah, let him do so.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Reported by Abu Daw\u016bd and An-Nas\u0101\u2019\u012b. Also, he can pray Witr with just one Tasleem (i.e. the sal\u0101m) at the end due to what has been reported by At-Tah\u0101wi, that \u2018Umar Ibn Khatt\u0101b (radiyall\u0101hu \u2018anhu)\u00a0made Witr with three rak\u2019ahs and he did not make the Tasleem until after the last Rak\u2019ah.<\/strong><\/p>\n Also, al-Bukh\u0101ri from Abdull\u0101h Ibn \u2018Umar (radiyall\u0101hu \u2018anhuma) that:\u00a0\u201cHe used to make Tasleem after the two rak\u2019ahs in Witr, and then Tasleem after another rak\u2019ah.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Question to Shaikh Ibn B\u0101z (rahimahull\u0101h):<\/strong><\/p>\n Is there any proof that the Witr prayer is performed like the Maghrib prayer?<\/p>\n Answer:<\/strong> No, it has not been reported \u2014 no. Rather, it is disliked. The Prophet (\ufdfa) forbade that it be made to resemble the Maghrib prayer.<\/p>\n However, he may pray it continuously \u2014 three rak\u02bfahs straight through \u2014 there is no harm in that. Or he may pray one rak\u02bfah (and this is better): he gives sal\u0101m (tasleem) after two rak\u02bfahs, then he prays a single rak\u02bfah [after that]. This is best.<\/p>\n And if he prays the three continuously, without sitting except after the third rak\u02bfah (for the final tashahhud)\u2014there is no problem in that.<\/p>\n As for making it resemble the Maghrib prayer \u2014 no. That is disliked.
